Catalyst are always proud to produce this legacy gig, which allows us to fully showcase our amazing equipment and talents. Our brief was to create a slick, big-impact show for a extensive line-up of artists, including The Stereophonics, Lewis Capaldi, Wet Wet Wet and Sophie Ellis-Bextor. Our client has full faith in our abilities and allowed our team to have creative freedom when designing eye-catching stage and technical elements in order to produce a memorable experience for the artists and audience.
We required a vast amount of equipment to produce a show with maximum impact, including a large quantity of LED screens and PA and RF packages to deliver an even coverage of sound across the entire venue. We flew in an 8m circular truss populated with Absen Polaris 3.9 and Robe 150 LED wash beams and created several totems with Absen panels for additional eye-candy at stage level. The team utilised 55 panels and 4 NovaStar controllers to give us control and redundancy. A large projection surface was flown above the LED video wall and two 15k double-stacked Epson laser projectors provided IMAG and presentation content. Video and cameras were mixed behind the stage with four fixed cameras and two manned. Our lighting team created a rig with various Robe fixtures to provide plenty of colour and movement to complement every performance, from moody ballads to high-tempo dance acts. Finally, our Y-series array were installed to deliver impeccable sound across the venue, right up to the balcony and tiered decks.
On top of the stage production, we designed and installed a giant staging platform that levelled-off the auditorium where the event is held. Since moving to The Usher Hall in Edinburgh in 2011, our client had the interesting challenge of creating a dining space for 500 guests in a raked auditorium. In true Catalyst style, we embraced the problem and found a solution. The entire stalls area of the auditorium had 1000 seats removed and we installed over 200 sections of staging to create a unique 4 tier dining area.
Our client was over the moon with the finished result and praised our skills, innovative designs and exceptional delivery, which we have provided every year since the show’s conception in 2004.
