For the third year running, Catalyst worked with our client to create a spectacular projection mapping of images and words onto some of Edinburgh’s most historic and prolific buildings. Accompanying sound would also be required for the month-long exhibition and we relished the challenge of utilising the city as our canvas.
The locations themselves were the trickiest part of the brief – the pre-determined sites were not established venues, meaning there was little or no infrastructure to support power supplies. Innovative thinking by our skilled Project Managers was engaged as our teams battled against the harsh Scottish winter to draw electricity from various sources in order to provide power to the projector and controls positions. Purpose-built towers were provided to house the projectors and were installed in some particularly tricky locations!
We used Epson projectors across the sites, installing everything from 12 to 25k laser units, depending on the individual location’s requirements. The Epson Projector Professional Tool software proved extremely useful when lining up some fairly complicated canvases. Those sites requiring audio were populated with various d&b boxes, ranging from E8s up to Q7s and SUBs.
