Following the appointment of Live Entertainment specialists Underbelly in 2017, Catalyst have supported Underbelly in the development of this world famous event. Covering 6 main project sites, we provide technical production solutions from AV within Event Control all the way to full technical production management of multiple music stages. The event starts for us on the 30th of December with the spectacular Torch Light Procession and Finale stage; and concludes in the early hours of 1st January when the last of the 75,000 party goers hang up their dancing shoes.
Of course, our involvement starts months before… planning the deployment of over 10 trucks full of equipment and over 40 staff across both weekends. Whilst we are super proud of the 3 music stages we supply and operate; our secret love is the surround sound loudspeaker system that we install, covering an area over 1.5 miles in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre. Utilising in the region of 230 loud speakers, 30 amplifiers and km's of cabling; this is a classic example of where we shine. The request to design, install and operate such a system would have been seen as step too far by many, but not by us and we have relished at the opportunity.
Working closely with other key stakeholders of the event, the solution includes full remote control over the entire system over the MediorNet backbone that is installed over the city and over 30 hangs on PA on purpose-built towers. The system also includes a full integrated safety PA system that we network back to event control; allowing tailored safety announcements delivered to specific areas of the city centre.
